NYC Women’s March on 1/21/17

Left home in Staten Island at 8:40 a.m. and arrived at 1st Avenue & 47th Street at 10:30 a.m (see above photo). United Nations building in the background.

Was suppose to meet group there that I signed up with on Internet, but so many people, I couldn’t find them.  People arriving very fast.  Struggled through the crowd.  Bought a couple of pins as souvenirs.  One says “Women’s March” and the other says “Trump Not My President.”  Moved through growing crowd of now thousands of people until I could get to the #6 subway at 51st Street.

Planning to take subway to Grand Central & then the Midtown library before heading home on #10 bus, which I can get right across the street from Midtown library and takes me only a block from my apartment in Staten Island.  Since, I’m 74, my stamina seems to be on the decline.  When I arrived on 42nd St., outside at Grand Central, the crowd consisting of men, women, children and many families, was so big, moving through them was difficult.  There was no way I would ever make it the few blocks to the library, not just because of the crowd, but because streets were blocked off.  Decided to go back into Grand Central Station to catch the #6 train to go downtown where I could also catch the #10 Express Bus home.

When I re-entered Grand Central Station from Vanderbilt Avenue, I couldn’t believe it.  I’ve never seen Grand Central like that. This was actually the highlight of my day. I had my camera with me all this time taking photos.

All & all, one of the most exciting experiences of my life.

Dark Days of Winter in Port Richmond, Staten Island, NY

All I’m doing these days is watching snow come down.  Keeping lots of food outside for the homeless cats and birds.  Knitting while watching TV or Inspector Morris videos on YouTube. I’m trying to read (“Crime & Punishment”), but reading makes me sleepy so then I go on Twitter to wake me up and end up being there for an hour or two.  And making op art/zentangle pictures:  below are some examples:

My latest designs?

It’s been so long since I’ve blogged on this site, I’ve almost forgotten how to do it.  I’ve been so involved in politics and the election that I spend most of my time on Twitter.

However, I’m back at trying to do art again.  I’ve about lost all interest in photography.  My current projects are these designs where I’m combining op art with zentangle.  Began using colored pencils, but now am using Prismacolor markers on which I’ve spent a fortune.  I guess it’s worth it if I get some kind of satisfaction out of it.

Lost in a Forest

I seem to have lost all interest in blogging, which is why I haven’t done it in so long.  Maybe this is just a temporary thing brought on by the election.  I now spend a lot of time on Twitter voicing my political opinions, but don’t care about blogging about them, something I did in 2012.

I think I’m going through a transition period.  Don’t know if I will ever return to blogging.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Vibrant

https://dailypost.wordpress.com/photo-challenges/vibrant/

When I think of vibrant, I immediately think of Southern California and their colorful vegetation (pink cactus above)  and houses.  Below are few photos of vibrant structures in Venice, California.

Optimism During a Snow Storm–Revisited

In response to the Post Weekly photo challenge: Optimistic

Yesterday, when I posted Optimism During a Snow Storm, I was using photos from past storms.  Then just today we got a blizzard here in Staten Island.  I’ve been out all morning taking photos.

Optimism During a Snow Storm

In response to the Post Weekly photo challenge: Optimistic

Since a snow storm is supposed to happen tonight, I have snow on the brain.  These are photos of people showing optimism during a snow storm.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Weightless

In response to the Post Weekly Photo Challenge:  Weightless

The first thing that came to my mind on this subject, and of something that I might have a photo of, was clouds.  Especially clouds at sunrise.  When it’s a new day and the weight of the world has not yet hit us.

These photos I took on Raritan Bay in Staten Island, NY, where I used to take my dog for walks early in the morning and watch the sun come up.
